Coal imports through Kandla face setback in December
18 Dec 2013
December 18: Coal imports through Kandla Port faced a setback during first three weeks of December 2013, according to data available with ICMW.
In the first three weeks of the month, coal imports through Kandla Port stood at 77,780 tons.
For the current week (ending December 20), there is only one vessel carrying 26,870 tons of imported coal berthed so far at the port while there were no imports via Kandla port in the last week (ended December 13) and 50,910 tons in the week before (ended December 6).
Port officials, however, did not identify any explicit reason for the same. When contacted, a port official said, “We cannot point out any specific reason for the same as it is up to the traders how much coal would be imported.”
Meanwhile, P.D. Vaghela, Chairman of the port, would complete his tenure by end of this week and it is yet to be decided who would be his successor.
