09 Sep 2014
September 9: India’s Ministry of Coal is set to become one of the few ministries in the country that will boast of a certification from the international organisation for standardisation (ISO), an official from the ministry told ICMW.
“After the final round of inspection by the Bureau of Indian Standards and external auditors, the organisation has recommended for granting of ISO 9001 certification to the ministry,” said Peeyush Kumar, Director (Technical), Ministry of Coal.
The final intimation regarding this will be given soon, Kumar said.
The third party audit (TPA) was done at the Coal Ministry’s Office at Shastri Bhawan on September 3 and 4.
In its observation report, the audit team said that “the organisation’s management system observed conforming to documental QMS and requirements of IS/ISO9001:2008 and found effective”.
Based on the audit, the team recommended granting of licence for “governmental controls for the development, exploration, distribution and welfare of Indian coal and lignite sectors”.
According to information available with ICMW, only India’s Ministry of Steel, at present, enjoys ISO 9001 accreditation.
Others like the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, Ministry of Law and Justice have invited expression of interest (EoI) from interested consultants for providing consultancy services to the respective ministries.
