October 31: As expected, spot steam coal prices corrected further down on lack of fresh enquiries amidst ample stocks, industry sources said.
Prices started correcting from October 29 and went down further on October 31 as rates of the South African varieties fell by $0.60 and $1.40 respectively on each days.
After moving up by $0.50 on October 2, Australian steam coal prices softened by $0.25.
Freight rates too continued to soften in the absence of vessels demand, particularly from South Africa as hardly any actual deals materialised during the previous two weeks.
