October 1: Spot coal prices of South African and Australian origin firmed up sharply on September 30 on expectations of higher demand from China and India even though actual deals continued to remain low, industry sources said.
Indonesian coal prices, on the other hand, showed marginal weak trends on low enquiries, they added.
Coking coal prices fell further amidst low enquiries in the spot market after miners managed to sign contracts with Japanese steel mills at $152 per ton for the October-December quarter recently.
