October 29: Spot prices of coal in international markets remained firm on the first day of the week amidst similar sentiments where few deals are actually materialising, industry sources said.
However, with the continued easing in freight rates, it is expected that actual buying would emerge soon, they added.
Indian companies too are exploring opportunities to enter into fresh deals, but current prices are discouraging them as they are looking to conclude deals at lower prices.
Spot prices, particularly of the South African and Australian steam coal varieties, had firmed up by around $10.00 and $4.00 per ton respectively during the past 10-12 days and most Indian companies feel prices will soften back to the levels prevailing 10-12 days back.
