November 1: Spot coal prices in international markets, barring Australia, continued to remain soft and eased further on continued lack of major enquiries as buyers defer their purchases, industry sources said.
India is largely in holiday mood and, as such, there are hardly any enquiries from their side, leading to a softness in South African as well as lower grades of Indonesian coal prices, they added.
While South African coal prices fell third day running on October 31, Indonesian low grade material (3,800 Kcal/kg GAR) softened by $0.25 per ton even as other varieties remained firm on support from Chinese buyers, the sources said.
Freight rates, on the other hand, continued to soften as expected and declined by around $0.50 per ton for Panamax vessels from various places to India.
