August 23: Spot coal prices remained largely flat in international markets on August 22 as Indian buyers continued to grapple with the rupee’s depreciation vis-à-vis the dollar, industry sources said.
“The market sentiment is down. We don’t see much hope till the rupee’s fall is arrested,” they said.
Reports that China is serious about reducing its coal consumption also impacted the market, leading to marginal drop in South African and Australian thermal coal prices.
