October 17: Spot coal prices in international markets, particularly for standard South African and Australian varieties, turned soft on continued lack of enquiries on October 16, industry sources said.
However, off-spec material such as 5,500 Kcal/kg prices firmed up a bit on higher enquiries for such coal from China. Some Indian consumers too are now targeting off-spec material, they said.
According to information available with ICMW, Essar Power had recently concluded a deal to procure one capsize cargo of 5,500 Kcal/kg South African cargo.
Indonesian coal prices too turned slightly soft on lower Chinese demand at present even though the market is expecting a revival in Chinese demand in the next few days as it starts stocking for the winter months.
