Coal production in The U.S. for the week ending August 22 rose for the third straight week

United States the world’s second largest coal producer has produced approximately totaled an estimated 18.5 million short tons (mmst) of coal in a week (For the week ended Aug 22, 2015), EIA said in its latest report.

According to EIA’s latest report, this production estimate is 0.9% higher than last week's estimate and 6.6% lower than the production estimate in the comparable week in 2014.

East of the Mississippi River produced totaled an estimated 7.5 mmst (up 1.35 per cent week over week) and west of the Mississippi River produced totaled an estimated 11 mmst (up 0.91 per cent week over week) , according to weekly figures released by the US Energy Information Agency (EIA), on Aug 27, 2015.

U.S. year-to-date (as of Aug 22, 2015) coal production totaled an estimated 583.1 mmst, 8.6% lower than lower than the comparable year-to-date coal production in 2014.
