24 Jul 2015

Coal production at Atlantic Coal’s Stockton anthracite mine in Pennsylvanie, US, jumped 12% in 2Q15 compared to the previous quarter, according to the company’s quarterly production and sales update.

ROM production totalled 160 583 short t in the quarter with clean coal production at 45 129 short t – slightly down on 1Q15 due to 16 days of maintenance for improvements to the washing plant.

Overall sales jumped significantly y/y following the start of ROM coal sales in 1Q15. Combined ROM and clean coal sales were 61 684 short in 2Q15 compared to 38 298 t of clean coal sales in 2Q14.

“Despite the usual fall in demand during the spring, we have managed to achieve a healthy level of coal sales,” said Atlantic’s Managing Director, Steve Best. “With our production capability, improved mining conditions and a healthy clean coal and ROM inventory, the directors look forward with confidence to the second half of the year and the winter season, when we anticipate an increase in both sales volumes and prices.”

The Stockton mine recently purchased new Komatsu equipment to help boost the mine’s efficient with ten new pieces of equipment purchased this year, including four Komatsu HD785-7 100 t haul trucks for hauling overburden, two Komatsu HM400-3 articulated haul trucks for hauling ROM coal, a Komatsu PC490LC-10 hydraulic excavator for excavating ROM coal, two Komatsu D275AX-SEO dozers and a Komatsu WA500-7 wheel loader.
