Coal regulator back on job as state appeals
05 Nov 2014
A top administrator with the Illinois state agency that regulates coal mining and other energy interests is back on the job after appealing his firing months ago.
Lee Enterprises' Springfield bureau reports the Illinois Department of Natural Resources is appealing the Illinois Civil Service Commission's decision favoring Tony Mayville, 59, of Du Bois. A Sangamon County judge ruled Oct. 20 that Mayville can return to work while the state challenges his reinstatement.Mayville said publicly that the reasons for his departure were twofold: He ran unsuccessfully for an Illinois House seat without first getting clearance from the DNR's chief and mishandled campaign donations from a coal company.
Mayville is seeking back pay for the time he was out of work, as well as reinstatement of his health insurance.
