Coal stock position showed improvement: Goyal

The coal stock position at power utilities firms showed improvement at 35.92 million tonnes on April 28 this year as compared to 29.76 MT as on April 30 last year, the Lok Sabha was informed today. The coal stock as on March 31, 2016 was the highest in last four years, Power Minister Piyush Goyal said in a written reply. As on July 13, 2016, the actual coal stock position was 31.17 MT, which is sufficient to operate the plants for 23 days as against the normative coal stock position of 28.45 MT to operate the plants for 21 days, he added. Further, these power plants receive coal on a daily basis and consume it based on their daily requirement in line with the generation schedule given to the plants. He further said the coal stock was not static and was not stored for a long time.
