Coal stocks at 98 thermal power plants fall in November

November 28: Coal stocks at 98 thermal power plants (TPS) in India dropped in November 2013 compared to that in the previous month, according to data released by the Central Electricity Authority (CEA).

Coal stocks at 98 TPS stood at 16.047 million tons (mt) on November 26, down from 17.064 mt recorded a month ago on October 31, the data showed.

In terms of days, coal stocks were down to 11 days as on November 26, against 13 days as on October 31.

Incidentally, the stocks of coal at the 98 power plants monitored by the CEA stood at 16.429 tons on November 17 which further declined to 16.047 tons on November 26.

The stocks of imported and domestic coal stood at 0.745 mt and 15.303 mt on November 26 while imported and domestic coal stocks stood at 0.842 mt and 16.222 mt, respectively on October 31.

The decline in the overall coal stock situation also affected the number of plants facing a critical coal stock situation of less than four days, the data of CEA revealed.

The number of plants facing a critical coal stock position of less than seven days stood at 31 on November 26 compared to 33 plants facing a similar fate on November 17, while this number stood at 28 on October 31.

However, the number of plants facing a super-critical coal stocks scenario of less than four days stood at 22 plants as on November 26, the same as that on November 17, while 17 plants faced a situation on October 31.
