Coal stocks at 99 thermal power plants fall in October

November 27: Coal stocks at 99 thermal power plants (TPS) in India dropped in October 2013, compared to the figure in the previous month, as receipts of coal fell short of requirements, according to data released by the Central Electricity Authority (CEA).

Coal stocks at 99 TPS were at 16,970,000 tons as of October 31, less than 19,676,000 tons recorded a month ago, the data showed.

In terms of days, coal stocks were down to 13 days as of October 31, against 16 days as of September 30.

In October, the total requirement of coal for the 99 utilities was at 41,909,000 tons, while receipt was at 32,959,000 tons or 79%. Against this, total consumption in October was at 33,764,000 tons, the data revealed.

The highest shortfall was in the northern region where 25 TPS received 75% of their coal requirement of 11,701,000 tons. The 14 plants in the southern region received 78% of their coal requirement of 7,688,000 tons. In the eastern region, 29 TPS received 80% of their requirement of 9,322,000 tons, while the 31 plants in the western region received 81% of their requirement of 13,198,000 tons.
