Coal stocks at power plants close to 30-mt levels

April 29: Stocks of coal at power plants monitored by the Central Electricity Authority (CEA) rose close to 30 million tons (mt) as on April 27, 2015 largely on account of higher domestic production and comparatively low demand for electricity in the country.
The stocks of coal at the 100 TPS stood at 29.782 mt on April 27, 2015, up from 29.443 mt on April 20, 2015, 25.291 mt on March 26, 2015 and 18.324 mt on April 27, 2014.
Stocks of imported and domestic coals stood at 3.616 mt and 26.166 mt respectively on April 27, at 3.455 mt and 25.988 mt respectively on April 20, 2.629 mt and 22.661 mt on March 26, 2015 and at 1.225 mt and 17.099 mt respectively on April 27, 2014.
In terms of days, stocks of coal on April 27, 2015 and April 20, 2015 were sufficient to run all the plants for 20 days, while on March 26, 2015 and April 27, 2014 the stocks were sufficient to run the plants for 17 and 14 days respectively.
The number of plants facing critical coal stocks position of less than seven days stood at 6 on April 27, while the figure was at 8, 13 and 22 respectively on April 20, 2015, March 26, 2015 and April 27, 2014.
The number of plants facing critical coal stocks position of less than four days stood at 3 on April 27, 2015, while the figure was at 3, 2 and 12 days respectively on April 20, 2015, March 26, 2015 and April 27, 2014.
