Coal stolen from Bermo Central Coalfields Limited mines found during raid

13 Jan 2014

A special police team on Sunday found a huge stock of illegal coal while raid was conducted near Khetko village under Petarwar police station in the district. The recovered coals are said to be stolen from the mines of Central Coalfields Limited (CCL) in the Bermo sub-division.

The coal smugglers managed to flee from the spot before police reached there. Police found more than hundred heaps of illegal coals dumped separately behind bushes and on farmland in the area. They informed CCL management about the recovery.

The spot appears to be the dumping ground for illegal coals. The coal smugglers dump illegal coals from CCL mines at Kehtko and later supply it to West Bengal by various means of transportation including bicycles.

The drive was conducted on the direction of SP, Bokaro Kuldeep Dwivedi. He, on a tip off, formed a police team headed by DSP, Bermo Manoj Kumar Rai who conducted the drive and found more than 160 tonnes of illegal coal.

Rai said though they have not assessed the cost but the recovered coal will be of worth several lakh rupees.

The recovered stock was so much that police had to hire payloaders to ferry them to the police station. "We are identifying names of the persons involved in this illegal trade and will lodge named FIR against them. We are intensifying raids in the area to curb illegal mining and smuggling of coals," said Rai.
