The crew members of tipper lorries launched an indefinite strike at the Koyagudem Opencast Project (OCP) in Tekulapalli mandal on Friday, bringing coal transportation from the OCP to coal consuming units to a standstill.

 

According to sources, the crew members of tipper lorries owing allegiance to the Motor Workers Union, embarked on the strike under the aegis of the Indian Federation of Trade Unions (IFTU), demanding an increase in their wages.

 

The strike has paralysed coal transportation to some major coal consuming industrial units in Palvancha and Kothagudem divisions, sources said.

 

Hundreds of tonnes of coal was piled up at the OCP following the strike launched by the crew members of the tipper lorries that regularly transport coal.

 

Meanwhile, the authorities concerned have initiated steps to bring the representatives of the tipper lorry owners and the striking crew members of the lorries to the negotiating table for ending the impasse.
