Imports of non-coking coal (steam coal) via Cochin Port were sharply up 120.57% to 105,950 tons in fiscal 2015-16 against 48,034 tons in 2014-15, according to provisional data available with ICMW.
On the other hand, imports of the material via the port were down 60.49% month-on-month to 8,000 tons in March 2016 against 20,250 tons seen in February 2016.

During March 2016, the entire imported quantity of 8,000 tons came from South Africa at a unit price of Rs 5,258 ($77) per ton.
During February 2016, out of the entire imported quantity, 6,000 tons came from South Africa at a unit price of Rs 5,220 ($76) per ton and 14,250 tons from Indonesia at a price range of Rs 4,072-Rs 4,074 ($60-$60) per ton.
