Coking coal imports via Chennai down 29.18% in April m-o-m

May 28: Coking coal imports through the port of Chennai dropped 29.18% to 199 tons in April against 281 tons registered in the previous month year, according to provisional data available with ICMW.
In April, all the consignments arrived from the UK in a price band of Rs 29,776 - Rs 30,218 ($489-493) per ton.
In March, all the consignments also arrived from the UK but in a price band of Rs 30,218 - Rs 31,679 ($489-503) per ton.
In February, all the coking coal consignments arrived from the United Kingdom in a price range of Rs 30,129 - Rs 31,058 ($484-$493) per ton while in January, too, two small consignments arrived from the UK at Rs 30,631 (491-$492) per ton.
It may be noted that coal handling at Chennai Port has been suspended since October 2012 following a ban imposed by the Madras High Court on handling of dirty cargo of coal and iron ore at the port with effect from October 1, 2011. The court order came following the hearing of a public interest litigation (PIL). However, old stocks are getting cleared.
