In February 2016, a volume of 69,661 tons of coking coal were imported through Karaikal Port, according to provisional data available with ICMW. In January 2016, there were no imports of the same. Imports, in general, have been irregular throughout the year.
Total imports for the first 11 months (April –February) of the current financial year stood at 208,821 tons while the same was at 71,868 tons in the same period of the previous year.

In February 2016, a volume of 69,661 tons came from Australia at a price range of Rs 5,922-Rs 6,336 ($87-$93) per ton.
In December 2015, a volume of 21,143 tons came from Australia too but at Rs 6,246 (93) per ton while further details of the remaining 21,143 tons were not available.
