Coking coal imports via Kolkata drop 33% m-o-m in December

January 9: Coking coal imports through the port of Kolkata port dropped by 33% to 402,100 tons in December 2013 against 601,398 tons reported in November 2013, as per provisional information available with ICMW.

With the December figures, total imports of the material during the first nine months through this port were at 4,061,364 tons against 3,261,371 tons registered in the corresponding months of last fiscal, showing a rise of 24.52% for the nine-month period.

Coking coal imports in December 2012 stood at 209,867 tons, showing an almost 92% jump year-on-year.

Total coking coal imports in the entire financial year of 2012-13 stood at 4,411,727 tons.

In December, 303,491 tons were imported from Australia in a price band of Rs 8,578 – Rs 10,828 ($136-$174) per ton, 9550 tons arrived from Mozambique at a unit price of Rs Rs 10,005 ($161), 43,013 tons arrived from New Zealand in a price band of Rs 7,441-Rs 9,992 ($118-$160) per ton and 46,046 tons came in from the US in a range of Rs 9,774 – Rs 10,676 ($154 - $170) per ton.

In November, however, 519,007 tons arrived from Australia in a price band of Rs 8,216 – Rs 11,400 ($132-$180) per ton, 23,995 tons came in from New Zealand in a price band of Rs 9,956 – Rs 10,100 ($160) per ton, and the balance 58,396 arrived from the US in a price band of Rs 9,590 – Rs 9,631 ($152-$155) per ton.
