Coking coal imports via Kolkata up 30.32% m-o-m in March

April 15: Coking coal imports through the port of Kolkata Port rose 30.32% to 309,822 tons in March 2014 against a quantum of 237,738 tons reported in the preceding month of February, as per provisional information available with ICMW.
With the March figures, total imports of the material during the entire financial year of 2013-14 stood at 5,020,876 tons against 4,411,727 tons registered in the corresponding period of last fiscal. Consequently, total coking coal imports via the port showed an increase of 13.80% in the just-concluded fiscal over the previous financial year of 2012-13.

In March, coking coal imports via this port included 287,332 tons from Australia in a price band of Rs 7,753 – Rs 10,996 ($126-$178) per ton, while the balance 22,490 tons arrived from New Zealand in a range of Rs 9,345 – Rs 9,488 ($151-$153) per ton.
In February 2014, coking coal imports included 193,381 tons from Australia in a price band of Rs 8,115 – Rs 10,725 ($129-$170) per ton, 12,000 tons from Mozambique at a unit price of Rs 9,989 ($161), 2,530 tons from New Zealand at a unit price of Rs 10,412 ($167) and the balance 29,827 tons from the United States in a price band of Rs 10,137 – Rs 10,301 ($161-$164) per ton.
