Coking coal imports via Mundra surge m-o-m in Dec

January 28: Coking coal imports through Mundra Port during December 2013 rose almost 4.7 times to 181,048 tons from 38,358 tons recorded in November 2013, according to provisional data available with ICMW.
In December 2012, coking coal imports via the port stood at 74,604 tons.
Total imports of coking coal through Mundra Port in the first nine months (April-December) of 2013-14 stood at 875,202 tons against 1,101,557 tons recorded in the same period of the previous financial year.
Following is the monthly break-up of coking coal imports via Mundra port in 2012-13 and 2013-14 (in tons):

During December 2013, 176,048 tons came in from Australia in a price range of Rs 8,345-Rs 10,408 ($134-$167) per ton while 5,000 tons came from Mozambique at a price of Rs 9,200 ($148) per ton.
However, in November 2013, 15,888 tons came from Australia at a price range of Rs 6,860-Rs 9,282 ($110-$147) per ton, 18,670 tons came from Indonesia at a price of Rs 8,713 ($138) per ton while 3,800 tons came from Mozambique at a price of Rs 9348 ($148) per ton.
