Coking coal imports via Mundra up 5.17% m-o-m in September

October 17: Coking coal imports through Mundra port during the month of September 2013 rose 5.17% to 78,880 tons from 75,000 tons recorded in August 2013, according to provisional data available with ICMW.
On a y-o-y basis, however, coking coal imported via Mundra port declined 21.41% to 78,880 in September 2013 compared to 100,361 tons in the same month last year (September 2012).
Total imports of coking coal through Mundra port in the first six months (April-September) of 2013-14 stood at 525,594 tons against 655,151 tons recorded in the same period of the previous financial year.
Following is the monthly break-up of coking coal imports via Mundra port in 2012-13 and 2013-14 (in tons):

In September2013, 68,880 tons came from Australia at a price range of Rs 6,230-Rs 10,446 ($99.00-$155.91), 5,000 tons came from Indonesia at Rs 9,251($138) per ton while 5,000 tons came from Mozambique at Rs 5,582 ($88) per ton.
Cheaper price of Australian coal compared to its Indonesian and Mozambique counterpart has caused a significant reduction of coal imported from both Indonesia and Mozambique during September 2013 compared to August 2013.
In August 2013, 50,000 tons came from Australia at a price range of Rs 7483-Rs 10,189 ($122-$156) per ton, 15,000 tons came from Indonesia at a price range of Rs 8499-Rs 9024 ($138) per ton while 10,000 tons came from Mozambique at a price range of Rs 5440-Rs 5471 ($88) per ton.
