Coking coal imports via New Mangalore up 63.39% m-o-m in Mar

April 16: Coking coal imports through New Mangalore Port during March 2014 rose sharply by almost 63.39% to 31,000 tons from 18,972 tons recorded in February 2014, according to provisional data available with ICMW.
In March 2013, coking coal imports via the port stood at 89,168 tons.
Total imports of coking coal through New Mangalore Port in 2013-14 stood at 504,283 tons against 673,730 tons recorded in the same period of the previous financial year.
Following is the monthly break-up of coking coal imports via New Mangalore Port in 2012-13 and 2013-14 (in tons):

In March 2014, 10,000 tons of coking coal came in from Australia at a price of Rs 6,208 ($99-$100) per ton while the rest of 21,000 tons came from Canada at a price of Rs 9,522 ($151) per ton.
However, during February 2014, the entire material came in from Australia at a price range of Rs 6,208-Rs 10,293 ($99-$164) per ton.
