Coking coal imports via Paradip drop 6.32% in March m-o-m

April 8: Imports of coking coal through the port of Paradip dropped marginally by 6.32% to 436,226 tons in March 2014 against 465,629 tons recorded in February 2014, according to provisional data available with ICMW.
With this, total imports of coking coke via the port during entire financial year of 2013-14 stood at 5,954,933 tons compared to 3,982,521 tons imported in the previous financial year. This translates into an increase of 49.53% in coking coal imports in the last fiscal over the previous financial year of 2012-13.
Coking coal imports in March 2013 stood considerably lower at 286,379 tons.

In March 2014, coking coal imports through Paradip included 384,579 tons from Australia in a price band of Rs 8,682 – Rs 11,615 ($138-$188) per ton and the balance 51,647 tons from the US in a price range of Rs 9,777 - Rs 9,841 ($158-$159) per ton.
In February, coking coal imports comprised 352,141 tons from Australia in a price band of Rs 10,409 – Rs 8,300 ($133-$165) per ton, 40,000 tons each from Austria and the US at a unit price of Rs 9,509 ($151) and Rs 9,992 ($159) respectively and the balance 33,488 tons from Mozambique at a unit price of Rs 9,118 ($145).
