Coking coal imports via Paradip rise a sharp 94.27% in Aug m-o-m

September 27: Imports of coking coal through the port of Paradip rose by a huge 94.27% to 767992 tons in August 2013 against 395,309 tons recorded in July 2013, as per provisional information available with ICMW.
With this, during the first five months of FY'14, total coking coal imports via the port stood at 2,336,456 tons compared to 1,966,586 tons imported in the same period last year.
Total coking coal imports in the last financial year of 2012-13 stood at 3,982,521 tons.

Imports in August, 2013 included 707,363 tons tons from Australia in a price range of Rs 7928 – Rs 12,459 ($129-$202) per ton, 47,396 tons from New Zealand at a unit price of Rs 9,576 ($161) and 13,233 tons arrived from the US for Rs 9,780 ($159) per ton.
In July 2013, however, 354,775 tons arrived from Australia in a price range Rs 8,510 – Rs 16,620 ($144-$281) per ton, 7,534 tons arrived from New Zealand at Rs 688 ($12) per ton, 3,000 tons arrived from South Africa at Rs 5,484 ($91) per ton while 30,000 tons arrived from the US at Rs 9,478 ($159) per ton.
