Coking coal imports via Vizag rise 41.69% in March m-o-m

April 11: Coking coal imports through the port of Vizag rose 41.69% to 793,565 tons in March 2014 over 560,072 tons recorded in the preceding month of February, as per provisional information available with ICMW.
With this, imports of steam coal in the entire financial year of 2013-14 stood at 6,622,226 tons against 6,330,428 tons recorded during the corresponding period of 2012-13, thereby registering an increase of 4.61% for the just-concluded full fiscal over the preceding year.

In March, coking coal imports via the port comprised 700,397 tons from Australia in a price band of Rs 6,029 – 10,573 ($97-$168) per ton, 55,978 tons from New Zealand in a range of Rs 9,357 – Rs 9,672 ($151-$157) per ton, 30,804 tons from Mozambique at a unit price of Rs 8,876 ($143) and 6,386 tons from the US at a unit price of Rs 10,158 ($164).
In February 2014, coking coal imports included 479,820 tons from Australia in a price band of Rs 6,081 – Rs 10,598 ($97 - $168) per ton, 31,127 tons from Mozambique at a unit price of Rs 9,276 ($147) and the balance 49,125 tons from the US in a price band of Rs 10,137 – Rs 10,158 ($161) per ton.
