October 28: Coking coal imports through the port of Vizag rose 69.56% at 546,544 tons in September 2013 against 322,327 tons reported in August 2013, as per provisional information available with ICMW.
With this, imports of steam coal in the first six months of 2013-14 stood at 3,144,910 tons whereas the figure was at 3,354,122 tons during the corresponding period of 2012-13.

In September 2013, 472,492 tons arrived from Australia in a price band of Rs 8,374 – Rs 10,720 ($131-$168) per ton, 28,052 tons arrived from New Zealand in a price range of Rs 8,157 – Rs 10,891 ($122-$163) per ton and the balance 46,000 tons arrived from the US at a unit price of Rs 10,383 ($163).
In August 2013, however, 262,136 tons arrived from Australia in a price band of Rs 7,410 – Rs 11,175 ($120-$182) per ton, 49,151 tons came from New Zealand in a price band of Rs 7,956 – Rs 10,622 ($122-$163) per ton and the balance from the US at a unit price of Rs 9,483 ($154) per ton.
