December 30: Coking coal prices slipped sharply in limited deals on December 27 in the aftermath of the settlement of January-March 2014 contract prices at around $143 per ton, industry sources said.
"Prior to the settlement, the miners had somehow managed to hold the prices at higher levels despite less than buoyant demand but once the news regarding the contract settlement was out, prices slipped sharply for all types of coking coal," they said.
Meanwhile, steam coal prices remained largely unchanged in the absence of bids and offers as traders continue to be in holiday mood, sources said.
