Collector takes steps to curb black-marketing of coal

District collector Deepak Mhaisekar has directed WCL authorities to ensure that coal supplied to various companies from WCL mines is not sold in the market without transfer permit (TP). The directive was given to curb black-marketing of coal allotted for various small scale industries from WCL mines here. WCL has not implemented TP system and coal allotted to various industries at subsidized rates is often sold in open market at a premium price.
Chandrapur city Congress president Nandu Nagarkar had filed two complaints with WCL Nagpur headquarters in July alleging that coal allotted to various small scale industries under central government scheme is routed to open markets through coal depots in Padoli near Chandrapur and Wani in Yavatmal districts. Even after the complaints, 256 tonne coal allotted to a Gujarat-based company from Chandrapur WCL area was taken to Wani in August.
Nagarkar again complained to WCL authorities and also submitted evidence. Though officials filed a case at Durgapur police station but supply to the erring company continued.
Nagarkar then pursued the matter with CM Prithviraj Chavan and also approached Mhaisekar. The district collector held a meeting with WCL officials in presence of Nagarkar and other Congress leaders on Thursday. Collector issued directives to ensure that subsidized coal provided by WCL is not sold in market without transfer permit. Similarly, he directed WCL authorities to submit details of coal supplied to small scale industries and power plants from all 34 WCL mines in the district.
