Colombian February coal exports jump to 13-month high: DANE

Colombian coal exports jumped to a 13-month high of 7.38 million mt in February, up 90.4% from 3.88 million mt in January and 3.2% higher than the 7.15 million mt exported in the year-ago month, according to data from government statistics agency DANE released April 6.
The 7.38 million mt was the second-highest total in the last 21 months, only lower than 14.01 million mt in January 2020. It was also the highest exports for any February month in over 30 years, according to DANE data that goes back to 1992.
Through February, coal exports totaled 11.26 million mt, down 46.8% from the same period a year earlier and the lowest since 10.33 million mt was exported in the first two months of 2013.
Export receipts from coal also rose to a 12-month high $444.9 million in February, up 77.2% from January, but 3.4% lower year on year. It was the lowest total for coal receipts for the corresponding month since $334.13 million in February 2016.
However, on a price per ton basis, exports fell to $60.26/mt FOB, down 7% from $64.77/mt in January and 6.4% from $64.41/mt in the year-ago month. It was down 17% from the five-year average for the month and was also the second-lowest average for a month of February in the last 14 years, only above $46.50/st in February 2016.
