Colombian coal exports drop 65.1% on week: Kpler

Houston — Colombia exported roughly 598,272 mt of coal on 12 coal carriers in the week ended May 5, down 65.1% from 22 ships carrying 1.71 million mt the previous week, according to commodities data provider Kpler.
 
More than 53%, or 317,365 mt, are headed to Panama, while 148,600 mt and 86,345 mt were shipped to Israel and Chile, respectively, according to the data.
 
n the week ended April 28, the top export destinations were Turkey, at 260,018 mt; Brazil, at 205,249 mt; Chile, at 199,179 mt; and the Netherlands, at 186,498 mt.
 
Drummond, Colombia's largest coal exporter, shipped out roughly 325,080 mt of coal in the latest week, down from 775,776 mt in the previous week.
 
Cerrejon exported 195,211 mt of coal, down from 694,299 mt a week earlier, while Glencore did not ship out any coal, compared with 53,828 mt in the prior week. Undisclosed sellers exported another 77,981 mt, down from 189,294 mt the prior week.
 
According to data from government statistics agency DANE, Colombian coal exports were at an 11-year low 71.19 million mt in 2020, down 4.7% from 2019 and the lowest since 68.68 million mt was exported in 2009. Export receipts from coal were a combined $4.17 billion, or $58.52/mt FOB in 2020, down from $5.67 billion, or $75.89/mt, a year earlier.
 
Through March, exports were at 14.61 million mt, down 46.1% from the same period a year ago and the second-lowest total in the last 16 years, only higher than 12.46 million mt from Q1 2013, the latest DANE data showed. Cumulative receipts were a combined $960.82 million, or $65.74/mt, compared with $1.61 billion, or $59.42/mt, in the same period a year ago.
