The expectation of a strike at Columbia’s Carrejon mine continued to impact sentiment, resulting in firmness in prices of South African and Australian origin coals on February 22 amidst restricted deals, market sources said.
Indonesian coal prices, however, remained largely unchanged, they added.
Despite firmness in prices, enquiries continued to remain on the lower side as buyers adopted caution and decided to wait till a clear picture emerged as to whether the strike would indeed happen or some negotiation will be done to end the impasse.
Following are the indicative prices of coal in various markets and indicative freight rates (Panamax vessels) on February 22:
