Commercial operation starts at 2nd unit of Vallur (NTECL)

August 28: The second 500-MW unit of Vallur Thermal Power Project of NTPC Tamil Nadu Energy Company Limited (NTECL), a joint venture of NTPC Ltd and Tangedco, has started commercial operation with effect from August 25, 2013, the company said in a statement.

On completion, Vallur will have an installed capacity of 1,500 MW with three units of 500 MW each.

Presently, 1,000 MW is in operation at the project, while another 500 MW unit is expected to go on stream this financial year, the statement added.

The project will help in improving the power scenario of the southern states, especially Tamil Nadu.
