Competition for cement industry

A State-level productivity competition, with the theme, ‘Productivity improvement is the key for success,’ was organised by the Madurai Productivity Council here for the cement industry on Saturday.
The objective was to motivate operatives and supervisors to share their experience of innovative practices implemented in their companies to improve productivity and reduce cost. Nine teams from different cement units participated.
In his inaugural address, Radhakrishnan Pandian, Deputy Commissioner of Labour, said that Tamil Nadu was free from strike and lockout because of the progressive policies adopted by cement companies and the collaborative approach of trade unions.
Ravi Sankar, president of Ramco Cements, in his valedictory address, emphasised the need to improve productivity to achieve cost reduction in order to face the current competition. He was confident that projects like the Smart Cities Mission would improve capacity utilisation of cement manufacturers from 60 to 75 per cent in 2016-17.
Geetha Ravi Sankar distributed cash awards to the winners. G. Subramanian, president, MPC, who traced the history of cement industry, said that such competitions would be organised for rubber, textile and engineering industries also.
