Construction at Vietnamese power plant begins

A couple of Chinese energy firms have begun construction on a 1.2 GW coal-fired power plant in Vietnam, according to the state coal-mining group, Vinacomin.

China Southern Power Grid and China Power International Development Co. are building the new plant in Binh Thuan province in the south of the country with operations at the first generator scheduled to start in December 2018.

A second generator will then follow in June 2019.

The project is China’s largest investment in the country and will help to secure power supply in Vietnam’s south – an area plagued by blackouts.
