November 19: Despite not encouraging bids across-the board, the offers for South African steam coal by traders and miners firmed up further on November 18, market sources said.
Indian buyers are showing less interest in South African standard material because of firmness in prices even though selective interest was seen in off-spec material, they said.
Incidentally, a weak trend in South African coal prices had prompted many Indian consumers to book huge quantities in late August and September as a consequence of which India’s total imports from South Africa in October surged sharply, according to data available with ICMW.
