PCI coal imports through the port of Kolkata were at 87,485 tons in December 2015 against 40,760 tons in November, showing a month-on-month increase of 114.63%, as per provisional information available with ICMW.
Imports of the material amounted to a much lower 26,895 tons in December 2014 while for fiscal 2014-15, the volumes stood at 615,010 tons.
With the December figures, total imports of the material in the first nine months of the current fiscal of 2015-16 stood at 486,240 tons against 396,369 tons seen in the same period of the previous fiscal, rising 22.67% year-on-year.

In December 2015, a volume of 80,794 tons arrived from Australia in a band of Rs 4,858 – Rs 5,155 ($72-77) per ton, 6,690 tons from South Africa in a band of Rs 4,007 – Rs 4,038 ($60) per ton.
November 2015 saw almost the entire volume arriving from Australia in a band of Rs 4,674 – Rs 4,797 ($70-73) per ton.
