Dec closing coal stocks of 125 TPPs at 16.567 mt

January 30: Total closing stocks of coal at 125 thermal power plants (TPPs) across the country stood at 16.567 million tons (mt) as of December 31, significantly higher than 12.892 mt on November 30 and 10.412 mt reported for October 31, according to data released by the Central Electricity Authority (CEA).

Closing stocks at the plants located in the western region were 5.404 mt (3.574 in November), followed by eastern region at 4.467 mt (3.918 mt), northern region at 3.422 mt (3.085 mt) and southern region at 3.274 mt (2.315 mt), the data showed.

The plants having the highest closing stocks were Kahalgaon TPS (699,000 tons), Simhadri (671,000 tons), Mauda TPS (585,000 tons), Ramagundam STPS (567,000 tons) and Talcher STPS (565,000 tons).

In contrast, 7 operating plants had zero stocks of coal as of December 31. This was lower than 10 plants reported in the previous month.
