Dec steam coal imports via Kolkata spurt 75% m-o-m

January 16: Steam coal import levels through the port of Kolkata rose 74.86% to 255,613 tons in December 2014 against 146,175 tons in November, according to provisional data available with ICMW.
In December 2013, imports were much lower at 60,326 tons.
Steam coal imports through the port in the first nine months of the current fiscal were at 650,792 tons against a volume of 1,724,209 tons recorded in the same period of the previous fiscal.
Total imports of the material for the entire financial year of 2013-14 were at 1,735,675 tons.

In December, 203,613 tons arrived from South Africa in a range of Rs 4,188 – Rs 5,485 ($67-86) per ton, 45,000 tons from Australia in a band of Rs 4,987 – Rs 5,508 ($80-88) per ton, while the balance 7,000 tons came in from the US at a unit price of Rs 6,815 ($107).
In November, imports comprised 128,175 tons from South Africa in a range of Rs 4,368 – Rs 5,808 ($71-94) per ton while 17,000 tons came in from the US in a band of Rs 6,476 – Rs 6,550 ($105) per ton and 1,000 ton from Indonesia at a unit price of Rs 2,529 ($40).
