Dec steam coal imports via Mumbai surge 145% m-o-m

January 30: Steam coal imports through the port of Mumbai catapulted 145% to 276,605 tons in December 2014 against 112,739 tons in December, as per information available with ICMW.
Imports of the material in December 2013 stood at 444,676 tons.
With this, in the first nine months of the current financial year (2014-15), non-coking coal imports through the port stood at 2,721,205 tons compared to 2,864,241 tons imported during the same period of 2013-14.
Following is the monthly break-up of steam coal imports via Mumbai in 2013-14 and 2014-15:

In December, 221,816 tons arrived from Indonesia in a price range of Rs 4,648 – Rs 4,684 ($74-73) per ton while the balance 54,789 tons arrived from South Africa at a unit price of Rs 4,270 ($67).
In November, a single consignment arrived from Indonesia at a unit price of Rs 4,782 ($77).
