September 26: The West Bengal government expects demand for power in Haldia to surge in the next three-four years followed by the lifting of the ban by the Centre in the Haldia Industrial Area, state Power Minister Manish Gupta told ICMW.
"It will take three to four years to develop small and medium-sized industries in the Haldia Industrial area and we expect demand (for power) to surge by that time," the minister said.
Earlier, in the middle of the month, the central government decided to lift the ban on expansion of industrial activity at the Haldia Industrial Area on environmental grounds. The ban was imposed in 2010.
