Despatches by CIL, SCCL fall 7.94% in August

September 19: The despatches of coal by domestic miners Coal India Ltd (CIL) and Singareni Collieries Company Ltd (SCCL), in August 2013, stood at 28.16 million tons (mt), down 7.94% compared to 30.59 mt despatched in July 2013, according to provisional data from the Central Electricity Authority (CEA).

The two companies had despatched a total of 27.36 mt coal in August 2012.

Of the total despatches in August 2013, CIL had despatched 26.04 mt whereas SCCL had despatched 2.12 mt. In August 2012, CIL had despatched only 24.49 mt of coal to power utilities whereas SCCL had despatched 2.87 mt coal.

During April-August, 2013, total despatches stood at 153.44 mt compared to 147.59 mt during the corresponding period of the previous year.
