Dhamra Port’s imported coal handling up 16.73% in FY14

April 10: Dhamra Port on the east coast of India registered a 16.73% increase in imported coal handling during the financial year 2013-14 as compared to 2012-13, an official of the port told ICMW.
“The total handling of imported coal in 2013-14 stood at 9.56 million tons (mt), up from 8.19 mt handled in 2012-13,” the official said.
Of the total handling in 2013-14, the share of coking coal was 3.99 mt while that of non-coking coal was 5.57 mt, the official said.
In 2012-13, the handling of imported coking coal stood at 2.97 mt and that of non-coking coal stood at 5.22 mt, he added.
The handling of imported coal in Q3 (October-December) of 2013-14 was 2.63 mt, of which coking coal was 1.03 mt and non-coking coal was 1.60 mt.
The handling of imported coal surged sharply in the fourth quarter (January-March) of 2013-14 and stood at 2.74 mt, of which coking coal was 1.26 mt and non-coking coal was 1.48 mt.
The official pointed out that in addition to imported coal, the company has handled a total of 0.58 mt of domestic (Talcher) coal which was moved out of port by Adani’s Mundra Power plant in Gujarat.
Meanwhile, the total cargo handling by the port in 2013-14 stood at 14.31 mt, up 29.17% compared with 11.07 mt handled in 2012-13.

Of the total outgoing cargo of 4.080 mt in 2013-14, 0.86 mt was iron ore meant for export and 2.64 mt was iron ore and pellets for domestic movement and 0.58 mt of domestic (Talcher) coal.
In 2012-13, of the total outgoing cargo of 2.35 mt, 1.36 mt was iron ore and pellets for domestic movement, 0.307 mt iron ore for export and 0.68 mt of domestic (Talcher) coal.
