Discom utilities’ dues to CPSUs at Rs 15,900 cr

October 29: The total outstanding dues of power distribution utilities against power purchased from 11 central public sector undertakings (CPSUs) stood at Rs 15,932 crore as of August 31, 2014, according to latest data available from Central Electricity Authority (CEA).
Among the defaulting states, Jharkhand is ranked at the top with total outstanding dues of Rs 7,626.90 crore. Other major defaulters are Jammu & Kashmir with Rs 2,245.35 crore, Delhi with Rs 937.43 crore and Rajasthan with Rs 796.94 crore.
Among the CPSUs, Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC) tops the list with unrecovered dues of Rs 7,608.06 crore (till July 2014) and is followed by NHPC at Rs 2,878.46 crore, Neyveli Lignite Corporation (NLC), at Rs 1,404.70 crore, and Nuclear Power Corporation of India (NPCIL), at Rs 1,091.87 crore.
There were, however, no dues outstanding against power purchased by the utilities from NTPC.
The outstanding dues include the principal and surcharge components.
