January 6: A diverse trend prevailed in international coal markets on January 5 after participants from Europe returned to the market after the holiday season in which South African coal prices inched up a bit, but Indonesian prices softened, market sources said.
The operators from the US are likely to return to the market from January 6 and that will also have some impact on the overall sentiment, they said.
South African coal prices inched up by around $0.20 per ton on January 5 while the Australian rates remained unchanged. Indonesian coal prices softened by around $0.20 per ton on an average across categories, they added.
