E-auction will not affect coal prices: Goyal
27 Feb 2015
February 27: The on-going e-auction of coal blocks will not impact prices of coal in India, said Piyush Goyal, Minister of State for Power, Coal & New and Renewable Energy (Independent Charge), in a written reply to a question in the Lok Sabha on February 26.
“The e-auction carried out so far is for captive use and, therefore, will have no effect on the price of coal,” the minister said. E-auction of coal blocks kicked off on February 14, 2015 and so far e-auction of 19 coal mines has been completed.
Earlier, based on the recommendations of the technical committee, 65 coal blocks have been earmarked for auction, including 45 coal mines for allotment other than the specified end-uses.
