ER’s Apr-Oct coal freight revenues up 26%

November 17: Eastern Railway (ER), on November 16, said its earnings from coal freight rose 26.38% during the first seven months (April-October) of 2014-15 as compared to the corresponding period of 2013-14.
“The share of earning from coal freight alone stood at Rs 1945.66 crores for April to October, 2014 which is 26.38% higher than that of Rs 1539.56 crores earned during the corresponding period of last year,” the Eastern Railways said in a release.
The figures released by Eastern Railway revealed that 68% of its total revenue of Rs 2860.46 crore came from coal transportation.
The earnings from coal traffic in October stood at Rs 278.12 crore, up from Rs 261.16 crore recorded in October 2013.
The Railways total freight earning during the first seven months of 2014-15 stood at Rs 2860.46 crore, up 20.31% as compared to Rs 2377.49 crore earned during the corresponding period of 2013-14.
The freight earning of Eastern Railway for October 2014 stood at Rs 414.19 crore, up 8.64% compared to Rs 381.25 crore earned in October 2013.
The release said that passenger earnings also recorded substantial growth during the seven month period and rose by 13.95% to Rs 1332.45 crore. The earnings from passengers in October stood at Rs 209.98 crore, up 19.63% from that of the corresponding month of 2013, it added.
