March 17: The eastern India states, particularly West Bengal, have rich human capital and should strive to attract manufacturing jobs from neighbouring China, India's leading corporate leaders said at a recent conference in Kolkata.
China is losing out in terms of competiveness in the manufacturing sector and the eastern region should take advantage of that, S Gopalakrishnan, executive vice- chairman of Infosys, said at the conference organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), Eastern Regional Council (ERC).
Mjunction Managing Director Viresh Oberoi said, "The nation is going through challenging times where double digit GDP growth has become a distant dream. In such times, we need to chart a growth trajectory by converting every hurdle into an opportunity."
Oberoi, who has been elected the Chairman of CII Eastern Regional Council, further said, "The role of this region in India's industrial growth is undeniable and I believe this resource-rich region has the potential to drive the economic turnaround of the nation. CII, on its part, will continue to drive this growth story as a facilitator."
Tata Steel Managing Director T V Narendran, who was also present on the occasion, called for removing the bottlenecks in terms of clearance hurdles for mega infrastructure projects to boost economic growth.
Arindam Bhattacharya, MD, Boston Consulting Group, said the delay in implementation of core sector projects need to be checked if the country has to return to a high growth trajectory.
